The lead officer highlighted that their key recommendations for future surveys would be:

  • allowing time to get the survey questions right and testing the questions out on others to make sure they make sense;
  • allowing time for distributing promotion materials;
  • and using different methods of promotion to reach a wide audience.

Feeding Back the Results

395 responses were received which was crucial to the rollout of free period products in Shetland. For example 86% of respondents said that ordering products online for postal delivery was best, so an ordering service was introduced alongside community venue provision. A media release on the launch of the service was issued and a summary of the consultation was made available on the website so that participants could see the results, and how this informed provision.

This type of participation is to consult. Feedback allowed those developing proposals to distribute free period products in a way that suited the community.
