Purpose of Engagement

Community roadshow offering employment support

In 2023-24, Shetland Islands Council’s Youth and Employability Team held a roadshow to offer job support. Based in Lerwick, the team help with CVs, interview skills, and offer free training. While most clients are based in or near Lerwick, the team wanted to reach more communities post-COVID and reduce the stigma around seeking help.

What was the desired outcome?

To ensure employability services are reaching all those who need support to progress towards, move into and sustain fair work, in line with the Employability Shared Measurement Framework and the No One Left Behind approach.

What was already known?

The team were aware that not everyone who may need support could access the service, whether through not knowing about it, or for practical reasons such as geography. The team also have access to a multitude of data on economic activity within the island and can look at unemployment and economic inactivity figures in different areas of Shetland.
