Chief Executive, Shetland Islands Council

Maggie has been Chief Executive for the Shetland Islands Council since 2018, having previously been Director of Infrastructure Services since 2013. She started working in local government in 1995 as an Environmental Health Officer and moved to Shetland to manage Environmental Health in 2004.

Maggie is really proud of the work that has been done around Anchor. What she would like to see achieved through the partnership is taking the Anchor approach around compassion and responsive services, and making it the norm for other services supporting people to achieve a good quality of life.

In the face of ever growing pressures and challenges, Maggie believes the partnership can best serve the community by working collectively in response to these challenges. Communicating effectively and honestly with the community, empowering them to step up and be the driving change.

"I think the Shetland Partnership has taken a real leadership approach around inequalities and stepping into the space around that cost of living and beginning to explore where people struggle and trying to intervene.”
