Locality Profile Indicators - Sources and Definitions

Notes

Data suppression

  • If data is unavailable for 50% or more datazones within a locality then data for that indicator has been suppressed. Where data is available for more than 50% of the datazones within a locality then data is averaged across those datazones.
  • Whalsay & Skerries data for ‘Children Living in Low Income Families’ in 2021/22 has been supressed. Therefore the percentage for 2020/21 is used on the profile.
  • Whalsay & Skerries data for ‘Average House Price’ in 2022 has been supressed and therefore is not available for publishing, and is not included on the Whalsay & Skerries profile.

Intermediate Geography Zones

  • Please note that Participation Rate is published at Intermediate Geography Zone (IGZ) level, which is a slightly different geography to the identified localities. IGZ areas are: "North and East Isles"; "North Mainland", "East and West Mainland", "Lerwick North", "Lerwick South", "Shetland Central" and "Shetland South".
    • "Shetland Central" is the same as the Shetland Partnership’s defined locality.
    • "North Mainland" is similar to "Shetland North" but does not include the Nesting/Laxo area as this is in "East and West Mainland" here.
    • "Lerwick North" and "Lerwick South" are combined - this includes the same areas as "Lerwick & Bressay", however, there is one area included (the Gulberwick/Quarff area) which is otherwise included in "Shetland South".
    • "Whalsay & Skerries" and "Yell, Unst & Fetlar" are combined here as "North and East Isles".

Datazones

  • For the indicators based on datazones, Foula is included in Shetland Central, whereas for other indicators Foula is included with Shetland West. As part of the Islands with Small Populations Locality Plan work, there is a profile for Foula. Fair Isle, Fetlar, Skerries and Papa Stour also have profiles.
  • *The published NHS Shetland Population Survey 2021/22 uses the same localities as Intermediate Geography Zones, which do not match the localities here. Therefore, NHS Shetland provided data from the combined datazones which match the localities used here. For that reason figures here will differ slightly from the published NHS report.
